Approved small wind turbines for households reduce CO2 emissions
The new small wind turbines for households can save Denmark towards 300,000 tons of CO2 emissions a year, states Grontmij in Denmark. Our climate consultants did a study into the effects of using small wind turbines now the first type has been approved.
When families choose to use these household windmills, they would be in a position to reduce their electricity bill by 50 %. Savings could even be increased considerably if more types of small windmills were to receive approval for use in Denmark
Supplying half of a family’s annual electricity consumption
Grontmij in Denmark has studied the new possibilities and calculated the potential for savings.
Our climate consultant Karsten Bruun explains the most important outcomes of the study: "The new small windmills for households will make it feasible for average Danes to obtain considerable reductions in their own CO2 emissions. Owners of the new type-approved small windmill – so far, only one type has been approved for use in Denmark – can look forward to annual savings of 2-3,000 kWh. This roughly corresponds to 50 percent of the electricity consumption of an ordinary Danish family with 2 children.
We also calculated that the windmill repays itself in between 6 and 8 years. Considering expected rises in energy prices, the investment will only become more attractive in the future.”
