2 Mar 2009 | Climate-Management Backup for Senior Executives

Climate management, a new topic of great interest at the moment, is a management discipline which should be mastered by every public and private executive desiring to behave responsibly in the matter of climate issues. A new handbook lends advice to ambitious climate executives seeking to implement visible cost-saving measures in their company.

Today, Grontmij in Denmark publishes a new handbook defining and given tangible advice on climate management. The background being that every executive in public and private businesses is now facing a need for inspiration for new approaches and concrete prescriptions concerning the management of climate challenges – with respect to climate adaptation as well as CO2 reduction.

Jørgen Mads Clausen offers advice
Grontmij in Denmark defines climate management as a mindset where the operations of an entire organisation is based on a series of principles originating in a combination of business acumen and sustainable strategy. Jørgen Mads Clausen from Danfoss and Johan Peter Paludan from the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies are two of a total of 29 experts – 14 of those being Grontmij in Denmark consultants – giving exhaustive accounts of their knowledge, experience and personal attitudes. The handbook lists theoretical approaches, but it also encompasses concrete tools, standards, case studies and ideas for new thinking on climate management.

Climate behaviour affects the bottom line
"The handbook represents concrete and hands-on-oriented inspiration and consultancy, readily available to the executives", says Hans-Martin Friis Møller, Business Unit Director at Grontmij in Denmark. The book offers good advice on e.g. climate strategies, sustainable building, green accounting, user-driven innovation in the climate efforts, barriers to municipality performance, scenarios as tools, and climate marketing and branding.

"Climate management is not just a question of behaving in morally responsible ways. Climate management can be directly measured on the bottom line – the moral as the financial", Hans-Martin Friis Møller points out. He is therefore pleased to see that many businesses are already working on the preparation of climate strategies, and here the handbook can provide further inspiration.

The Handbook gets you off the ground
The debate in society intensely focussed on the climate changes shows that both the business sector and the public authorities take their climate responsibility seriously. "At Grontmij in Denmark we receive an increasing number of consultancy assignments for businesses with a desire for a professional climate strategy systematically approaching every managerial challenge. The 33 articles comprised in the business handbook constitute an inspiring and practical point of departure", Hans-Martin Friis Møller concludes.

Four annual updates
Grontmij in Denmark's handbook on climate management is published in both a printed and an electronic version. There will be four annual updates in order that it will always contain the most recent knowledge.
