Construction supervisor’s role for new to build Academic Centre
Recently Grontmij in Poland signed an agreement to act as construction supervisor for the new to build Academic Centre for New Media. The centre will be located in Lodz and will be ready in June 2011.
Design of the new centre
The new centre will have five floors above ground and one underground. The proposed building is shaped like the letter 'T' and consists of two interconnected rectangles. Elevation of the building is covered with clinker bricks. Material choice was not accidental - it is a clear nod to the industrial history of the city and dominating post-industrial architecture. Designed glazing will add lightness and an irregular rhythm to the solid block.
Use of the new centre
On an area of 6 thousand m2 there will be classrooms, photography studios, analogue and digital editing rooms and digital animation studios. In addition, in the basement of the building archives for films, sensor film strip and digital media, now scattered in four different places are planned. The building is to have more than 5,000 m2 floor area and capacity around 28 000 m3.
