2nd win in a row for Grontmij Belgium!
On Thursday May 12th, EVAL Europe and Grontmij Belgium won the 2011 ITM Award in the “Best Practice in Process” category. It is the 2nd win in a row for Grontmij Belgium, following last year’s success with the realisation of an inventive distribution system for DuPont.
The jury awarded the prize not only because of the

excellent result that Eval achieved in terms of energy efficiency but also because of the project approach in which all processes and parameters were called into question and all disciplines cooperated to make this possible.
The ITM Awards annually award prizes to innovative projects. EVAL Europe and Grontmij Belgium participated in the ‘Best Practice in Process’ category with a set of projects that will lead to EVAL Europe being the most energy-efficient EVOH resin production site in the world for 2012. In order to achieve this goal, a detailed Pinch Analysis of the production units was set up. This methodology enables calculating how the energy consumption of chemical processes can be minimized.
Grontmij Belgium provided the detailed elaboration of the projects defined from the Pinch Analysis. The elaboration of such a detailed analysis and phased practical implementation of the proposals demonstrates a decisive energy awareness and the will of EVAL to effectively become the most energy-efficient EVOH production facility.
All process conditions were questioned beforehand and by means of decisive process simulations, effectively reversed. Furthermore, all subprojects were meticulously elaborated and economically well-founded, so that the necessary funds could also be released in Japan.
From an intensive collaboration between the various disciplines a unique layout was created, which has changed the appearance and operation of the plant forever. The typical economic payback period of this project is around 3 to 4 years.
