As the leading member of the design and consulting consortium, Grontmij will offer services including the conceptual planning and design, the site plan, the design scheme, the preliminary design as well as consultancy on the construction drawings. The park will be realised by the end of 2013.
Bio-lake of Wuhan Optics Valley is a state-level industry base approved by the National Development and Reform Commission. Bio-medical park is a significant part of the valley. The park contains approximately 372,000 m2 of gross floor area including an underground parking, a research and development area, several testing and manufacturing workshops, office space, an exhibition and service area and a residential area.
The challenge in obtaining this contract, for which the first proposals were made in September 2011, was that the park is being designed and developed before the users and their specific requirements are known. Li Bin, Grontmij country managing director in China, says: 'Grontmij will take this chance to get involved in the relative high-end design and consulting market of China, offering international and sustainable services to the Chinese customers'.
The local partner of Grontmij, the General Institute of Architectural and Research Co. Ltd, is a Chinese top design institute. Grontmij and its partner form a powerful consortium for the design and consultation, in which Grontmij acts as the leading member.
