27 Apr 2011 | Press release - Grontmij wins role on Scotland's Forth Replacement Crossing project

Grontmij has won a role in supporting Forth Crossing Bridge Constructors (FCBC), for the design of the new Forth Replacement Crossing in Scotland (United Kingdom). The overall project is valued at £ 790 million. Grontmij’s fee will be upwards of £ 5 million.

The FCBC joint venture, comprising HOCHTIEF Solutions, American Bridge International, Dragados (ACS Group) and Morrison Construction, has been awarded the main contract of the Forth Replacement Crossing by Transport Scotland. It will be supported by an international design joint venture made up of Grontmij, Gifford, Ramboll and Leonhardt Andra and Partners. The design will include both the crossing and the associated land-based infrastructure works in what is the biggest Scottish infrastructure project for a generation.

As part of that consortium, Grontmij will be responsible for designing the road networks on both sides of the Forth estuary, including road works, structures, geotechnics, landscaping and traffic management. Grontmij will also be responsible for the overall project management of all land-based works and will provide site supervision services during the construction phase.

Grontmij is now expected to begin the detailed design work on the crossing in May, and provide site supervision services until completion in 2016.

Sylvo Thijsen, CEO Grontmij N.V. said: ‘I’m delighted we are part of the successful consortium on this landmark project. Together with our international partners we are looking forward to working successfully with Forth Crossing Bridge Constructors by demonstrating our extensive knowledge and expertise. This is a great example of our international capability delivered locally.’
