16 May 2008 | Press release - Grontmij breaks through on the Belgian energy market 

Bionerga commissions the construction of a new energy plant.
 

Commissioned by Bionerga, a waste processing company in the Belgian province of Limburg, a study into the construction of a new energy plant will start soon. This plant is expected to process 300,000 tons of domestic waste every year.

The study will be conducted by the ‘Tijdelijke Handelsvennootschap Energetische Valorisatie Limburg’ [Temporary Commercial Trading Company, Energy Valorisation Limburg], in short THV ENVALIM. This trading company consists of Grontmij, MIPLAN, the Libost group, Belconsulting and architectural firm L-Groep.

Grontmij and its partners will jointly conduct a study into the construction of a new energy plant.The optimal recovery of energy, both heat and electricity, will determine the choice of the design of the power station. The project will be realised by means of a ‘Design & Build’ procedure.

The assignment consists of determining the reference design, drawing up the specifications (Design & Build), overseeing the contract negotiations with the contractor, the application and supervision of permits and full project management during  the realisation of the project. In this assignment, Grontmij is responsible for the recovery of energy.

The assignment extends over a period of four years. The investment costs are estimated at EUR 145 million. The turnover for Grontmij and the Libost Group is EUR 2.3 million.
