Grontmij is providing assistance to the fifth largest city of Poland in the field of waste water and drinking water.
Within the framework of the Partners for Water encouragement program of the Dutch Agency for international business and cooperation (EVD), the Dutch consortium (consisting of Grontmij and Deltares, supported by Grontmij Poland) is carrying out this project in Poznan, the fifth largest city of Poland. Huge investments are being made in the construction of sewers, (waste) water purification plants and water systems in Poland, and Poznan is a good example of this.
Supporting one of the largest water companies in Poland
Grontmij and Deltares provide support to the water company Aquanet S.A. in Poland (one of the largest such companies in Poland). The support concerns the delivery and implementation of the sewer management program RioGL and the hydraulic calculation program SOBEK. As part of this implementation, the consortium provides courses/training to users of the two programs. Furthermore, Grontmij and Deltares have defined a pilot area and made a sewer model for this area in both programs. Finally, the partners have made calculations and drawn up analyses for improving the functioning of the sewer system in the pilot area. They also came up with the first draft for a sewer management plan.
First step on the sewer market
With the implementation of the two software programs, Grontmij is taking the first step in the development of better sewer management and the realisation of better sewer designs on the Polish sewer market. The market can further develop on this basis. The market is, incidentally, mostly owned by water and sewer utility companies.
Partners for Water
The project is covered by the Partners for Water encouragement program, funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The programme, Partners for Water 2005-2009 focuses on pulling resources together in order to boost the international position of the Dutch water sector (government, the business community, knowledge institutions and NGOs). The programme is managed by the Partners for Water programme agency, a cooperation of the EVD and the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP).
