19 Nov 2007 | Grontmij is Climate Champion of the week

Grontmij Information Management has been declared this week’s Climate Champion of the week by the Dutch Climate Agency (www.klimaatbureau.nl).

Information Management has been awarded this prize for embarking on an ‘ambitious green campaign’.

By equipping 4,000 computers with time switches and adjusting the supply of power to servers according to demand (or traffic), they ensure that the systems use markedly less energy. Erik ten Winkel, IT Manager, expects as much as a 35% reduction in energy use. With this move, Grontmij has ‘expressly taken on a pacesetting role within the business community’, according to the Climate Agency.

The weekly Climate Champion award is an integral part of HIER. HIER is the Dutch Climate Agency’s climate campaign. It is the objective of HIER to raise awareness among and involve the Dutch public in the climate problem and  the search for solutions thereto. 40 Dutch social organisations are involved in the work of the Dutch Climate Agency.
