The Netherlands as an example of how to deal with climate change In the broadcast the Netherlands were used as a positive example of a progressive approach to the climate challenges. Especially Dutch know how and expertise in containing water from rain, rivers and rising sea level was illustrated. In addition the ‘Delta Committee’ was mentioned and short interviews with Dutch experts were shown. One of the interviews was taken with a Grontmij colleague, Jana Steenbergen -Kajabova in which she explains how to protect the Dutch coast line by establishing new artificial beach areas.
‘Green Winner Nation’In the studio the news host asked: ‘What have we done in Denmark to meet the climate challenges?’. The Danish Prime Minsters is shown in his most recent address where he identified the climate changes as Denmark’s primary challenge as well as announcing his new ambitious plan to make Denmark a ‘Green Winner Nation’.
Back to the studio two critics advocate the viewpoint of: more action and less talk in the Danish climate debate … ‘We have to take action now. Are we facing water rising levels of 30, 60 or 130 centimetres? one of them asked’. The seriousness of the situation is further emphasized with dramatic animated maps of e.g. inner city Copenhagen submerged due to a 1.3 metres rise in sea level.
Finally a live interview is made with the Danish Minister for Climate & Energy Ms. Connie Hedegaard (conservative). She is confronted with the Dutch initiatives and the viewpoints of the two Danish critics.
