20 Mar 2007 | Grontmij wins the prestigious 'Trends Belgian Building Award 2007'

Grontmij recently won the prestigious 'Trends Belgian Building Award 2007' in the category of Cultural Inheritance for the project FelixArchief.

The jury praised the new FelixArchief as a brilliant example of reuse of valuable patrimonium and even an example for the entire world.

The City of Antwerp commissioned Grontmij to renovate and covert the classified industrial Sint-Felixpakhuis, dated from the middle of the nineteenth century, into the new Antwerp city archives. The challenge consisted mainly of integrating the various functions of city archives into one complex without touching the existing structure of the historical building. Together with Robbrecht & Daem Architecten, Grontmij succeeded in giving this complex, with its high historical value, an equally high-standard contemporary look and function.
