23 Oct 2008 | Grontmij writes Technical Due Diligence report for production plant in Croatia

Agricultural corporation GP & Partners are developing a production plant for wheat starch and sugar syrup in Croatia. They would like to accomplish this using new equipment as well as second-hand equipment from a former Dutch plant. The equipment will be placed in the refurbished buildings of a former beet sugar plant in Beli Manastir. Amongst others, Grontmij inspected the technical condition and financial value of the installations.

The industrial sector spends billions of euros on acquisitions and participations in companies every year. Before embarking on such a move, the acquiring party usually wants to see a Technical Due Diligence report to identify those technical aspects that may influence the acquisition. This analysis must be conducted by a party with ample experience in maintenance, engineering and operational principles.

Site visit
The Due Diligence inspection was conducted by Grontmij in September 2008. We took a week to visit the plant in Croatia, which is still under construction. “GP & Partners needs additional financial means from external investors,” says Robert Levering, Business Development Manager in the Netherlands. “That was one of the reasons for the due diligence. We inspected the technical condition of the installations, the financial value and future operational value.”

Inspection
We inspected the technical installations, biogas installation and operational organisation, among other subjects. “We inspected the design specifications and the operational organisation and much more, on the basis of interviews with staff. This enabled us to providee a value assessment of the performance and operational reliability. We also drew up budget estimates for the multidisciplinary resources up to the delivery of the project and determined the replacement value of the installations.”

Satisfied
According to Robert, the client is pleased with the report. “The report shows an objective picture of the current situation.  Thanks to a report of our findings and a number of other tools, the investor or credit provider is able to make an informed decision on whether or not to invest in this company.”
