20 Jan 2009 | Lower costs through better utilisation of parking facilities

Parking is a costly business; this is true not only for the average car driver but also for the operator of the parking spaces and facilities.

The professional journal Parking Trend International featured in their December 2008 issue an article called 'Parking is too expensive!'. It talks about how to make efficient use of parking facilities. The authors of the article are among others: Eddy Jongen and Wim van der Heide both working for Grontmij | Parkconsult.

Case study
The article features a case study of the Arena project in the city of Tienen in Belgium. In early 2007 Grontmij | Parkconsult was commissioned by the company Optimal Parking Control (OPC) to provide a second opinion. The project is located on a former barracks site where a number of commercial, residential and cultural amenities will be built such as a theatre, a cinema, an art school, apartments and stores. An underground car park is to be built here also; Grontmij | Parkconsult was asked to look at the amount of parking spaces that were required to meet the needs of the public.
