Press release - Grontmij wins contract with Turkish Environment Ministry
Grontmij has won a contract with the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanization (MoEU). Grontmij will provide technical assistance and act as supervising consultant to support the Municipality of Erzincan in upgrading and modernizing its existing water and wastewater systems. The contract value for Grontmij is € 3 million. The project will start in January 2012 and it will last until September 2015.
At present, the municipality of Erzincan has no water treatment plant. The storage tanks used to distribute water are about 30 years old and polluted water is discharged into the nearby Karasu river.
Grontmij has been assigned to oversee the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive and compliance with EU Urban Wastewater Directive, to reduce water losses and the pollution of the nearby river. Grontmij will also train municipal staff, to modernize its Water Utility Department.
