Press release - Grontmij granted extension for Flemish infrastructure project
Under contract from the Road and Traffic Agency of the Flemish Government in Belgium, Grontmij is working on the improvements to the Flemish road infrastructure.
Together with two other large Belgian consultancy and engineering firms, Grontmij is acting in the capacity of designated principal within this project. The three consultancy and engineering firms have officially joined forces in the form of a temporary company under the name of Temporary Association for Safe Traffic in Flanders (TV 3V).
Together with its partners, Grontmij is drawing up the long-term programme, preparing a set of guiding principles under the name “Traffic Safety in Flanders”, analysing traffic danger points and contributing to the concept, realisation and follow-up activities of the projects.
800 fewer danger points
In 2002, the Flemish Government initiated the programme ‘Removing danger points and dangerous stretches of roads in Flanders’, a project which was initially to be spread out over a period of five years. With this programme, the Flemish Government aims to introduce improvements with respect to the road infrastructure. The goal was to resolve 800 danger points during this five year period. The government allocated a total budget of EUR 550 million to the project.
Recently, the contracting party decided to extend this programme by one year, which also applies to the framework agreement associated with the programme. A budget of over EUR 3.6 million is required for this extension. Grontmij’s resulting turnover from the project is over one-third of this budget.
