6 Oct 2010 | Robert F. Kennedy jr. speaks at Grontmij on renewable energy

On Friday October 1st 2010, Grontmij Head Office in De Bilt hosted a high-level round-table discussion on renewable resources with national policy-makers. As one of the invited speakers, the leading US environmentalist and lobbyist Robert F. Kennedy jr. shared his inspiring vision on renewable energy and resource recovery.

High-level representatives give their views
Robert F. Kennedy jr., as a notable US lawyer, environmentalist and world-wide lobbyist, addressed his ideas about a sustainable future. He concluded his vision with: 'We are at a tipping point right now. Within 10 years from now, we will see the large capital flow to the carbon-intensive industry changing towards the emerging sectors of renewable energy and resource recovery.' This implies a huge transition from the established industries to new production technologies and distribution networks for renewable energy and resource recovery.

Mr. Peter Glas, president of the Dutch Association of Regional Water Authorities, highlighted the profound relationship the Dutch have with water. 'The Regional Water Authorities in The Netherlands have the important task to safeguard our Delta against flooding, and they are also in charge of sewage water treatment. As a specialised branch of government we very much welcome the cooperation and partnership with the private sector for innovations in delta-technology and waste-water technology' according to Mr. Glas.

Seeking partners, creating platforms, finding solutions
Hubert Habib, director of Grontmij Nederland B.V., says 'Grontmij has acknowledged and addressed the need for change and has taken a leading position to support initiatives and create opportunities with respect to resource recovery. Grontmij continuously seeks close cooperation with technology partners, governmental bodies, and research organisations to be able to timely give the right answer to the increasing need for resources, clean water, and energy. Only with strong partnerships we will be able to find the right sustainable solutions for future generations'.

License agreement signed
On the same day, Grontmij signed a new license agreement with Ostara, a leading partner in phosphate recovery technology from Canada. Tom Vereijken, Director Water at Grontmij Nederland: 'With this new license agreement, the Grontmij Water Division adds another cutting-edge technology to the existing SHARON and DEMON technologies used for nitrogen removal. The new Pearl technology is used to recover phosphate from waste water as a high quality fertilizer product. This perfectly matches the Water Division’s strategy to market our in-depth expertise and deliver leading technologies'.
