Transportation sector bringing two new large contracts for Grontmij
Grontmij obtains assignment to advice on rail extension of one of the main Dutch rail corridors and acquires joint contract with Atkins for a large rail project in Denmark.
In commission of the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, Grontmij in the Netherlands will research the different options for extending the rail lines of the Schiphol – Amsterdam – Almere - Lelystad corridor. Grontmij will make a prognosis of the possible future development of rail transport requirements in this area, provide information for the feasibility study and support Prorail in their analysis of the rail capacity.
Final decisions are scheduled to be taken by the Dutch government in the autumn of 2009.
Grontmij, together with Atkins, has been contracted to design a major rail project for Rail Net Denmark of which the capital budget totals 107 million EUR. The project is a major logistical assignment and includes about 70,000 hours of work which will be distributed equally between the two companies, and a number of sub-consultants.
The project encompasses the establishment of two new main lines, an overhead catenary system and structures for passenger trains between Copenhagen Central and Vigerslev stations. The five-kilometre-long section will provide capacity upgrading allowing for two additional main-line trains per hour in each direction on the Copenhagen-Ringsted line. It is expected the project shall be completed in 2012.
