Grontmij is assigned to design for a full scale natural stone processing facility with office buildings and laboratories (6,500 m²), and to prepare the tender dossiers according to EU tender rules and RED FIDIC contract conditions.

The Bayburt region is known for its small and medium sized natural stone enterprises. The objective of the support centre project is to increase the competiveness of the region by improving the natural stone manufacturing sector. For the realisation of the project, Bayburt receives € 9.5 million from the EU as grants.    

As stone factories use a lot of water for the cooling down of the machines (around 600 m³ per day) the design will also include a water treatment plant which will enable the factory to use 570 m³, decreasing the waste of water substantially.
