Reducing energy whilst creating additional office space
Grontmij's design team challenged
The objective of the Two Towers scheme was to create additional office space whilst significantly reducing energy use by 400%.
The main challenge facing the Grontmij design team was the lack of available open urban space, particularly in the immediate vicinity of the existing building. To address this issue, the building design minimised the amount of land use and built surface.
Reduction in energy use
Several aspects of the building services design contributed towards the dramatic reduction in energy use. These included insulation and inner climate management, installation of a passive thermal interaction system and heat pumps with ground-air heat exchange.
