Green ship of the future
Grontmij carried out a ground-breaking research project in Denmark to reduce emissions from ships.
The project targeted a:
- 30% reduction in CO2
- 90% reduction of SOx
- 90& reduction of NOx
The report looked into a number of solutions. It concluded that through a number of innovative solutions, including implementing a speed nozzle or optimised propeller, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), a waste heat recovery system and optimised coolers and cooling pumps, significant emissions reductions could be gained, such as:
- 7.2% reduction in CO2
- 98.6% reduction in SOx
- 79.1% reduction in NOx
