Renovation of Storfinnsforsen Hydro Dam
Part of E.ON's dam-safety project
Grontmij was commissioned to renovate Sweden’s largest concrete Hydro dam for E.ON as part of the energy company’s dam-safety project.
The dam, which has an annual production capacity of 543 GWh was starting to crack due to variations in temperature and water pressure.
In addition to the renovation of the hydropower station and turbine, Grontmij designed new bridges and a new wicket gate control system. The outcome is that the dam is safer now than when it was constructed and will not require further maintenance for 100 years.
