Our production and disposal of waste in our operations is recorded under GRI indicator EN22.
Waste in 2009
Our approach to waste management is common across all of our operations. However the practicalities of waste management do vary from region to region and even within regions due to local office management arrangements. Our common approach is to adopt the waste hierarchy of eliminate, reduce, reuse and recycle. It is only residual wastes at the end of this chain that are sent for final disposal and wherever achievable we select final disposal options that include energy recovery.
It is only in our Danish and Swedish operations where we have discrete data for waste collected and disposed.
In Denmark this amounted to 242,000 kg (40% estimated data) and in Sweden 91,000 kg (75% estimated data). Of these wastes approximately 50% was of paper and card.
Waste management
We recognise the importance of all resources and the importance of reducing the use of all materials in line with the principles of sustainability. In this respect we manage all of our purchasing policies in a responsible manner and minimise the use of all materials to levels that are as low as is reasonably practicable.
Minimising waste
We provide a range of innovative services in our approach to minimising waste in all our projects and specifically in waste management commissions. Follow the links opposite to learn more about our services.
