Employment
We are committed to fair and equitable employment of all employees and subscribe to international codes and conventions. As an employer spanning many regions we have developed employment policies in line with the norms of the countries in which we operate.

Labour/Management Relations
Labour management relations are good within Grontmij. We respect the Global Compact principles in relation to worker's rights.  A works’ council, or equivalent, is in place in the countries in which we are active. Representatives of these councils together form the European Workers’ Council.

Occupational Health & Safety
Health and safety is of critical importance to our operations. We have health and safety management systems accredited to OHSAS18001 in place throughout our Danish, German and UK operations. We have advanced plans in place to secure further accreditation in Belgium, Netherlands and Sweden during 2010. Further details can be found on our country websites.

Organisational responsibility
Overall organisational responsibility for labour practices rests with our Group CEO Sylvo Thijsen. Within each of our operating regions we have a managing director who assumes responsibility for the delivery of labour relations in line with regional laws and regulations.

Training and awareness
Procedures for training and awareness raising in relation to labour practices are in place for all employees, and in particular those with management responsibilities, in each of our operating regions. Training is provided as part of induction process for all new employees with regular up-date training being available as appropriate to changing rules or procedures.

Monitoring and Follow-Up
We have procedures in place for grievances and disputes resolution, whistle blowing and appeals procedures available to all employees to deal with any unresolved disputes. Many of our organisations have accreditation to the Investors In People standard.
