Front modernisation of 140 meters high building
New front meets today's requirements
The DZ Bank building (140 m high, 42 storeys) is one of the oldest high rises in Frankfurt (built in 67 -69). The front construction is – measured by today´s standards – not suitable as far as Wärmeschutz is concerned. Instead of tearing down the whole building, as it is often done in cases like this, it was decided to replace the old front with a new one that meets today´s requirements.
The DZ Bank building (140 m high, 42 storeys) is one of the oldest high rises in Frankfurt (built in 1967-69). The front construction is – measured by today´s standards – not suitable as far as thermal insulation is concerned and produces very high costs for the energy supply. Instead of tearing down the whole building, as it is often done in cases like this, it was decided to replace the old front with a new one that meets today´s requirements.
Since the building is rented completely, the replacement of the front has to be done without disturbing the work inside. That is done through an exact time management: during the week the new front is assembled on the outside, and on the weekends the old front is dismantled on the inside.
In total 28.000 sqm of front are being replaced, thereby the energy costs are reduced by 30 %.
After doing the feasibility study Grontmij BGS prepares the logistics concept, does structural analyses and coordinates the safety and health protection for this project.
