New neighbourhood in Denmark

Establishment of a new neighbourhood in Odense, Denmark 

The old industrial area in the middle of Odense is now going to be the location of a modern neighbourhood covering a total of 178,000 m2.

In co-operation with Odense Projektudviklingsselskab A/S (OPUS) and Årstiderne Arkitekter, Grontmij in Denmark is going to carry out the development project, which will transform the old railway and slaughterhouse area in the middle of Odense to a dynamic trade and housing area.

Odense’s new landmark
The new neighbourhood is going to include a shopping centre of approx. 50,000 m2, which will represent the city’s visionary urban development with a distinctive and sculptural building and redefine the historic city centre that Odense is known for. The shopping centre will be Odense´s new landmark, which will be located in continuation of the existing inner city and form a bridge between the existing pedestrianised zone and the harbour area.

In addition to the shopping centre, the project includes 63,000 m2 of underground parking facility, 35,000 m2 of squares of and roads as well as four block constructions consisting of hotel, business and housing.  

The opening of the shopping centre is planned to take place in November of 2011, while the whole neighbourhood is expected to the finished at the end of the year 2013.
