Environmental engineers deliver integrated solutions
Integrated solutions for water and soil pollution
Lignite or brown coal is still used on a large scale in Rumania. The result is environmental problems, also on a large scale. Water and environmental engineers at Grontmij, on behalf of Agentschap NL and other project partners, have developed integrated solutions for the Rumanian government, to deal with this problem.
Lignite
Brown coal or lignite is still used in Rumania on a large scale for the production of electricity. This process releases fly ash, which is subsequently dumped, resulting in serious environmental impact on the surrounding region. Over the past few years, awareness of the need to develop an integrated solution to this problem has grown. In response, environmental engineers at Grontmij have developed methods of tackling this problem within a Government-to-Government (G2G) project.
Integrated solutions
At the end of 2010, Grontmij successfully completed this project, and the Rumanian government is now able to employ the solutions provided in a number of follow-up steps that come together to tackle both water and soil pollution.
