Road infrastructure of Dutch highway to be improved

Road infrastructure of Dutch highway to be improved

Plan of action

The most important East West Highway in the western top region in the Netherlands is less and less suited to efficiently handle the growing amount of motor cars. Grontmij in the Netherlands will make a plan of action.

Construction parallel lane
Grontmij will make a plan of action to tackle this problem. The construction of a parallel lane adjacent to the existing aqueduct near Gouda, including a new bridge and the improvement of secondary roads in the area will provide local and regional car traffic with a reliable and fast new route in the area. Congestion at the existing bottleneck will be diminished. Long distance car traffic will benefit also.

Protection of the area
The investment in road infrastructure will add up to 300 million EUR. Special measures will be taken to protect the area. Preventing losses due to congestion will contribute to a sustainable solution. The project results in an overall profit for society and economy. Construction works will take place between 2015 and 2020.
