In glasshouse horticulture one needs CO2 , heat and light to promote the growth of plants. In this project the generation energy is substituted by the use the waste heat and waste CO2 of the industries surrounding it. The horticulturists that will set up their business in this area will therefore use an astonishing 90% less gas than the gardeners in traditional glasshouse horticulture.
Innovative heat distribution networkHeat from various industrial waste heat sources in the area is transported via isolated pipelines to the glasshouse horticulture companies. This innovative heating network had to comply with demanding requirements. This called for an integral design. Grontmij is the project manager of this project on behalf of the client. Grontmij coordinates all the main stakeholders in this project such as horticulturists, heat producers and contractors.
The largest climate friendly horticulture area of the NetherlandsThe client of this project is WarmCO2 and the project carries the same name. WarmCO2 will start supplying CO2 and heat to the 10 horticulturists that are going to set up their businesses in this new to develop area. The area is 168 hectares large and this makes it the largest and most climate friendely horticulture area of the Netherlands. The greenhouses are part of the Biopark Terneuzen in the southern part of the Netherlands.
