Grontmij won with the project Wuhan New Energy Institute the public award of the Vernufteling. 'It's a source of inspiration for new energy-neutral real estate development.'

The day of the Engineer, 3 November 2011, was very successful for Grontmij. The innovative design for most sustainable office in the world did not only finish at first place public election of the Vernufteling, but also in the top three of the jury election.

Victor Pastor, team leader technical specialist, who is closely involved in the winning project: 'I am very happy and proud for this recognition of our work. This public award is the crowning glory of a great project. A project that demonstrates that multidisciplinary integration and sustainable innovation make the natural forces in the environment the basis of the building. The good and intensive cooperation between Grontmij, Soeters Van Eldonk Architects plus our partners and client in China, has lead to a very ingenious design. I think the Wuhan New Energy Institute will be an inexhaustible source of inspiration for new energy-neutral real estate developments.'

On the annual Day of the Engineer both engineers and engineering firms are put in the spotlight. The awards are aimed to raise awareness about the social value of the engineers’ work. The initiative comes from the Engineers association KIVI NIRIA, the trade association NLingenieurs and the publishers of De Ingenieur en Technisch Weekblad.
