Congratulations to all the Grontmij UK employees that were part of the project teams selected to be finalists at the Scottish Capital Programme Awards 2009.
The ceremony, which was held at Linlithgow Rugby Club on 19th June, was attended by 200 people from across Scottish Water and its delivery partners.

Members of Grontmij UK were integral to project teams selected for the following award nominations:
- Health and Safety
- Partnering
- Team of the Year
The Scottish Water team of the year, which is the blue ribbon award, was given to the ‘Water Framework Directive Monitoring Team’ within which Grontmij played a key role. This follows success at last year’s event when employees from Grontmij were honoured with the ‘Reservoir Security Programme’ team of the year. To achieve this award two years running is a tremendous accomplishment.
Key players from the Systems and Water EAs in the Water Framework Directive Monitoring Team include Sikander Waheed, Gerry O'Harra, Lindsay Kerr, Chris Boyle, Nick Vass, Sam Lee, Billy Hawkins and Paul Kinney.
Special commendation
Members of Grontmij were also runners up for the Park Avenue flood alleviation project in the ‘Partnering Award’ category. The project received special commendation from Richard Ackroyd, Scottish Water’s Chief Executive Officer, on the engineering excellence and customer care displayed. In addition, Norman McGorm, our health and safety consultant, was an integral part of the team that finished runners up in the ‘Health and Safety’ category.
Commenting on the accolade, Scott Aitken, Director of Water said, “This is the second successive year that Grontmij employees have been involved in several of the projects nominated at the awards, which is a fantastic achievement in itself. It is also recognition of the outstanding service offered to Scottish Water. To win the blue ribbon award for a second year in a row is simply outstanding. It is testament to the fact that we have avoided being complacent and have successfully combined our technical expertise with a collaborative, client focused approach. Hopefully next year will see us winning a hat-trick!”
